“We’re proud do to our part at Green Airport to ‘Wear Red for Women’ to raise awareness regarding stroke and heart disease, which tragically still take the lives of one in three women in the nation,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, President and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. “Heart disease is the number one cause of death in women and we ‘whole heartedly’ support efforts among our employees and patrons to #GoRedGetFit!”
In addition to allowing employees the opportunity to donate to efforts to prevent heart disease among women, RIAC also helped promote the cause via social media promoting #WearRedDay and #GoRedWearRed. Employees also took time during the day to enjoy some heart healthy refreshments while encouraging all employees to take heart disease seriously and #GoRedGetFit.
According to www.goredforwomen.org 80% of heart disease among women is preventable. The “Go Red for Women” campaign started in 2004 when the American Heart Association took on the challenge of raising awareness about the number one cause of death in women.
