The Rhode Island Airport Police is a fully authorized, duly sworn, full
service, law enforcement agency of the State of Rhode Island.

The mission of the Rhode Island Airport Police Department is to serve
all passengers, visitors, and employees within our jurisdiction with

The Rhode Island Airport Police enforces Local, State, and Federal laws
primarily at T.F. Green International Airport, the state's only
commercial air-carrier airport. The Patrol Division maintains a
presence at Green Airport. We also have enforcement authority on a
statewide level with regard to aviation related matters. Our post-9/11
duties also include active anti- and counter-terrorism measures.
The Inspector’s office, for the Airport Police, handles various
responsibilities throughout the department. The Inspector is the
Detective for the department, and his main duties are the investigating,
processing, and prosecution of all incidents and arrests that happen
throughout the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.

The Segway Patroller program at T.F. Green Airport (PVD) supplements the
traditional foot patrol. The program is designed to improve response
time in an airport setting, while facilitating increased public interaction.
The RI Airport Police has maintained a certified Police Cyclist Unit
since 1999. The unit consists of police officers, who have undergone a
rigorous week-long certification process through the International
Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA). Sergeant Michael Mefford, a
certified IPMBA Instructor, oversees this unit and for many years,
offers the Police Certification Course to police departments throughout
RI as part of nationwide return to the "Community Policing" effort.
The department works closely with the United States Secret Service and
other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to provide
protection of any dignitaries that arrive or depart from any airport in
EXPLOSIVE DETECTION CANINE UNIT, NATIONAL EXPLOSIVE DETECTION CANINE TRAINING PROGRAM (NEDCTP)
In cooperation with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA),
the department has several NEDCTP K-9 teams at T.F. Green Airport.
These K-9 teams are also used to assist local, state and federal law
enforcement agencies when requested.
NARCOTIC DETECTION CANINE PROGRAM
The department utilizes several certified narcotic detection K-9's at
the Airport. These narcotic K-9's are also used to assist local, state,
and federal agencies when requested.
DISPATCH COMMUNICATIONS CENTER
The dispatch communications center provides radio communication to our
officers in the field, ARFF units, airport operations, and all other
airport services and operates 24 hours a day/seven days a week. This
center also receives and fields thousands of calls a year pertaining to a
wide variety of requests for information and assistance from the
public, airport tenants, and other public safety agencies. All calls for
service are processed through the use of a computer-aided dispatch
SECURITY IDENTIFICATION BADGING UNIT
The Badging Office processes all applicants that require security
credentials. This allows certain individuals to access secured areas of
the airport. The department is responsible for the processing of all
Criminal History Record Checks (CHRC's), Security Threat Assessment
(STA) information, as well as security testing.
LOST & FOUND
While traveling it is very common for passengers to lose items,
while going through screening at the security checkpoint, at the
airport or on an aircraft. If you feel think you may have lost an item
while at T.F. Green Airport, please call (401) 691-2247, Monday thru
Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm. If you believe you lost an
item while going through screening at the security checkpoint, please
